Rising Pop Singer/Songwriter Kristina Lachaga Partners with GlamourGals Foundation as Ambassador

"The Girl With The Big Pink Heart" will work to spread the #GGmovement, encouraging teens to bridge the generation gap with makeovers and manicures

May 11, 2016 - NEW YORK, NY - Rising pop singer/songwriter Kristina Lachaga has been named Ambassador for GlamourGals Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit that inspires and organizes teen volunteers to provide ongoing companionship and complimentary beauty makeovers to women living in senior homes.

Kristina Lachaga performs her mashup cover of Demi Lovato's "Who Will I Be" and "Gift Of A Friend" LIVE at GlamourGals' 2015 Glammy Scholarship Awards

"The Girl With The Big Pink Heart," as she is known to her fans, first became involved with GlamourGals in April 2015 after meeting Rachel Doyle, founder and CEO of GlamourGals, in Baltimore, MD at Girls' Life Magazine's Rock Your Life teen leadership summit. Lachaga was asked by Doyle to perform at GlamourGals' Glammy Scholarship Awards the next month in New York City. In November 2015, Lachaga was invited to interview leading professionals in fashion and technology as the Hot Pink Carpet Correspondent at the GlamourGals Leadership Training Institute in New York City. She also presented a piece about compassion and how her grandmother has influenced her to think with her heart and her head, that truly resonated with GG volunteers and inspired them to use compassionate problem solving skills.

2015 was a banner year for Lachaga with performances at iHeartRadio's Z104.3 & Girls' Life Magazine's One Direction Concert Pre-Party, State Fair Meadowlands with Heffron Drive (featuring Kendall Schmidt of Nickelodeon/Columbia Record's Big Time Rush), the New York State Fair, Girls World Expo Tour, and more. Lachaga, who writes her own songs and music, has already released 3 original songs, "No Doubt," "Won't Wait Forever," and "Calendar," on iTunes. This summer, Lachaga will release her newest single "R.S.V.P." - inspired by Simon & Schuster/Aladdin MIX's You're Invited book series hitting iTunes, as well as her first music video. For this pop singer who sings her heart out, it's just the beginning!

GlamourGals is creating a movement of compassionate teen leaders working to end elder isolation. The #GGmovement has inspired the creation of almost 100 chapters at high schools and colleges across the United States and Canada. Chapter volunteers visit senior homes at least once a month to provide manicures and makeovers to the seniors, but these anxiously awaited manicures and makeovers are just half the story. It's about connecting generations and making seniors feel valued. Conversations between volunteers and seniors are at the heart of every GlamourGals makeover and Lachaga is honored to use her 'big pink heart' to encourage teens to bridge the generation gap between themselves and seniors.

GlamourGals and the #GGmovement are close to Lachaga's heart. Having grown up only knowing one of her grandparents, her 93-year-old grandmother on her mom's side, Lachaga shares a special connection with her own grandmother. Lachaga, her mom, and her grandmother, self-dubbed the "Three Musketeers," take trips to her favorite place: Vermont, to see Broadway musicals when they come to her area, and they love to go out to eat. This proud granddaughter looks to her grandmother for advice, a good laugh, and a fun time - she has learned the heart knows no age, just cheery smiles and warm-hearted company.

"My grandma is amazing and young at heart! She always encourages me to 'Just go for it!' and take chances. Plus, she shares the best beauty advice...I'd let you in on her beauty secrets, if I can trust you to keep them!" - Kristina Lachaga, Pop Singer/Songwriter & GlamourGals Ambassador

Lachaga's grandmother is lucky to have family that she can call every day and expect visits from multiple times each month. However, the problem of elder isolation is real: Over 50 percent of seniors in care do not have any close relatives to visit them, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. GlamourGals is working across the country to make elder isolation a thing of the past - one GlamourGals chapter, volunteer, and makeover at a time.

May 21, 2016 will mark the pop singer's second time performing at the Glammy Scholarship Awards presented by Beauticontrol - the official sponsor of the Glammys.

Lachaga supports the work of GlamourGals, which is making a huge impact in the lives of seniors and teens alike. The stories GG volunteers share are heartwarming, touching, and give insight to what can be learned just by opening our ears and our hearts to a section of society that can often be overlooked. "The Girl With The Big Pink Heart" wants to help change that and looks forward to spreading the word about the #GGmovement across the country, as well as participating in chapters' makeovers, and reaching out to her fans (called #Heartbreakers) encouraging them to start chapters and hold MegaMakeovers in their own communities.
