New Hampshire Girl Expo Fosters Unique Popstar-Meets-Author Partnership Aimed at Inspiring Girls

September 26, 2016 - BEDFORD, NH - They meet again! In May 2015, a chance meeting brought together two creative minds which led to the creation of their unique popstar-meets-author partnership. On Saturday, October 8th, the pair will return to the New Hampshire event where their partnership started: Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountain's Girl Expo: Everything Exciting for Girls!

Rising pop singer/songwriter Kristina Lachaga, "The Girl With The Big Pink Heart" first met 20th Century Fox publicist turned middle grade/young adult author Jen Malone, while unloading her event equipment in the parking lot of Southern New Hampshire University's Athletic Complex, last year's Girl Expo location. After Lachaga introduced herself, Malone offered the songwriter the opportunity to write and record a song inspired by Malone and Gail Nall's book series You're Invited, published by Simon & Schuster/Aladdin MIX. The result is Lachaga's new single, "R.S.V.P.", hitting iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and more Fall 2016.

On October 8th, Lachaga and Malone will be making joint appearance at not one, but two girl-powered events aimed at inspiring New England tweens and teens:

  • Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains' Girl Expo: Everything Exciting for Girls from 10am-4pm at NH Sportsplex, 68 Technology Dr, Bedford, NH. Attendees do not have to be Girl Scouts to attend. Lachaga will perform on the Main Stage from 11:30am-12:20pm and Malone will have a book signing and co-present two workshops for kids and teens alongside author Lori Goldstein at 12 noon and 2pm. For more information and tickets, visit: //www.girlscoutsgwm.org/en/activities/girl-expo-2016.html
  • Saturday evening will take Lachaga and Malone to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts' Camporee at Camp Runels in Pelham, NH, where the pair will present to 300 Girl Scouts in 4th-8th grade about living a creative life, their partnership, story telling using different mediums, and following your dreams. The event will also feature a reading from the You're Invited book series by Malone (who presents frequent writing-themed programming with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts), a performance by Lachaga of her original songs -- including "R.S.V.P.", and a Q&A.

Lachaga, a former Girl Scout herself, believes it is important to use her voice to help give teens and tweens the confidence to explore their passions, work hard, and be themselves and looks forward to inspiring the girls at both events to #FollowYourHeartsDream. Lachaga has also visited over 150 schools across the country spreading her 'Sticks & Stones' Anti-Bullying message, including New Hampshire and Boston-area schools in June 2014.

Malone, also a former Girl Scout, is equally passionate about spreading a message of "girl power," both in story form via the characters in her novels and in person through her work as the Author in Residence at a Massachusetts middle school and during frequent New England school visits and writing workshops with libraries and scout troops. "I'm very mindful every time I sit at my keyboard or spend time in a classroom that we all have a voice we can use for good. My megaphone is the written word, but I'm passionate about helping every kid find his or her own path to creativity and to help them use that outlet to foster something even bigger. I I think it's really inspiring that the partnership between Kristina and myself illustrates how two separate mediums-novel and song--can convey the same ideas in such vastly different ways, and I'm really eager to explore that idea with the girls we'll be spending time with."

You're Invited and You're Invited Too follow the story of four best friends that decide to form a party planning business called 'R.S.V.P.' in their small beach town over the summer and how their business aspirations affects their friendships with each other. Lachaga trusts the You're Invited series will be a new favorite book among tween and teen girls and believes its story and message will resonate with them.

"Each girl in You're Invited has her own unique personality and different strengths -I could definitely see a bit of myself in each of the main characters. I love that the book touches on important topics for tweens and teens - being true to yourself while still finding out who you are, the value of true friendship, and following your heart's dream. I wanted to make sure I incorporated those themes into my song 'R.S.V.P.' and I hope readers will enjoy the books as much as I did, share it with their best friends, and then play 'R.S.V.P.' on repeat!"

You're Invited Too will also be making its mark at Scholastic Book Fairs at schools across the county this Fall.
