Learn more about Amy von Diest:
Hi! My name is Amy and I am a lifelong Girl Scout. Hard to
believe but next year will mark my 40th year as a member! I am so
happy join the Cookie Rally as I loved selling Girl Scout cookies
as a girl and feel so special to be invited.
For the past 8 years I have built a small business in Phnom Penh,
Cambodia called Clothesline Resale Boutique. If you asked me as a
teen if I would be living in Cambodia in 20 years I may not have
believed you but it actually makes perfect sense. I am a very
brave and adventuresome person and love experiencing new things.
I started Clothesline with my Cambodian partner Chenda, we
actually first met at Sangam World Center as she's an active
member of Girl Guides of Cambodia! We started our business
because we both wanted to make a difference while working from
our house to help support elderly family members. My skills as a
traveler and also a business owner come from my wide and varied
Girl Scout experience. Especially my practice in goal setting,
decision making, speaking up, and also listening for
understanding, all of these skills I learn and practice as a Girl
Scout and they serve me on a daily basis.
Before moving to Asia I spent fifteen years working
professionally for Girl Scouts of Alaska supporting Girl Scout
programs happening in small, isolated western Alaska villages. I
care about putting my energy and skills into communities where I
can truly make a difference while learning everyday. In my
freetime you will find me spending time exploring urban wildlife
with my niece and nephews, drinking good coffee, and slowly
working my way through all of the Newbery Award winning books!
My advice to girls is dont stop, find a way for Girl Scouting to
stay part of your life because the older you get the wider the
opportunities are for you within our global movement! I have
gotten to learn and practice my leadership in so many special
places and all of my global leadership opportunities have
happened after my twenties! No matter if you are five or
fifty-five Girl Scouting is as great as you want to make it and I
am pretty lucky at what our Movement has given me. My current
Girl Scout dreams are to travel to my fifth world Center Our
Cabana to celebrate my four decades of Girl Scout awesomeness, be
a contributing member of the USAGSO Advisory Board, and someday
become a Girl Scout troop leader for my Cambodian niece.Perhaps
our paths will cross again one of these days and certainly look
us up when visiting Cambodia!
